Is my electricity distributor the same as my supplier?

No. Your supplier is the company you pay and can switch — Octopus, British Gas, E.ON Next and so on. Your distributor (DNO) owns and maintains the physical wires and substations in your area, is fixed by location, and cannot be switched. Every supplier pays every DNO to move electricity down the same local wires.

How do I find my DNO?

The first two digits of the 13-digit core MPAN on your electricity bill are the distributor ID, which maps directly to one of the 14 licence areas below. You can also use our MPAN decoder, or find your rough region by postcode area on the who-supplies-my-area pages.

What number do I call for a power cut?

Call 105, free, from any phone, anywhere in Great Britain. It automatically routes to your local DNO's power-cut line, whichever of the six DNO groups covers your postcode.
