Household tariff reviews — benchmarked against the live Ofgem price cap.

Send us your latest energy bill. We compare your unit rate, standing charge and direct debit against the April 2026 price cap and every fixed deal currently on the UK market — and tell you, plainly, whether to switch, sit tight, or fix.

From 1 April 2026 the Ofgem price cap fell to £1,641 per year for typical use, paid by direct debit — a 6.6% reduction. The headline number hides regional variation, and many fixed deals now sit below the cap. Our job is to map your specific usage onto the lowest legitimate tariff for your meter, region and payment method.

Price cap variance check

We compare your last invoice against the April 2026 cap unit rates: 24.67p/kWh electricity, 5.74p/kWh gas, with a 57.21p/day electricity standing charge and 29.10p/day gas. Variance from your regional cap is flagged and explained — including any catch-up or estimated reads inflating the bill.

Switch to a fixed tariff (when it makes sense)

In March 2026, E.ON Next held the cheapest published fixed tariff for many regions; Octopus Energy retains the largest market share and is consistently competitive on flexible products. We will not push a switch unless the saving meaningfully exceeds early-exit fees and tariff-end risk — most quarters, we recommend at least one switch in three audits.

  • Fixed, variable and tracker comparison
  • Single fuel and dual fuel options
  • Smart-meter compatibility validated before switch
  • Cooling-off rights protected throughout

Smart meter and IHD checks

Smart meters are technically free, but installation backlogs and SMETS1 versus SMETS2 hardware quirks mean many households are running on estimated reads or have a non-functioning IHD. We check your meter status against the DCC and arrange a free supplier upgrade where eligible.

Vulnerable customer support — Priority Services Register

If you, or someone in your household, has a long-term medical condition, a disability, is over State Pension age, or is in a vulnerable financial position, you have a right to be added to the Priority Services Register (free). We handle the registration with your supplier and water company, which unlocks free meter reads, bill-format options, supply-priority during outages and protected disconnection rules.

Frequently asked

  • No. Domestic switches are free. If your current contract has an early-exit fee, we factor it into the savings model and only recommend a switch if it remains net positive.
